SCI MAINE APPRENTICE HUNTER PROGRAM at Greenland Point Center
The Maine Apprentice Hunting Camp gives youth an apprentice experience in the hunting heritage of Maine through activities including the opportunity to:
Expand on their Hunter Safety Certification (previously earned).
Apply their knowledge of gun safety, gun care & cleaning plus improve shooting skills.
Learn practical and traditional camp craft in hunting and valuable survival skills.
Enjoy a week long stay at a camp reminiscent of Maine’s traditional outdoor camps while they experience wilderness activities, conservation history, and ecological principals.
Participate in a one-day accompanied hunting experience. This partnership between Greenland Point and SCIME is designed to provide a mentored educational hunting experience for youth conducted by both professional and volunteer staff, who are passionate about our hunting heritage and conservation ethics. Volunteers are state certified safety instructors for the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, as well as members of local fish & game clubs and/or Registered Maine Guides. Campers will be instructed on Hunter Safety and Responsibility (beyond basic Hunter Safety), and be given opportunities to further develop hunting and outdoor recreation skills.
